We're in Oregon! Last night I curled up on a hotel bed with the Lovely Daughter and her roommate and we all watched Grey's Anatomy together -- my idea of a perfect evening. They have regular classes today so we're off to the coast, though probably further south than pictured above.
And yesterday afternoon we got to meet the delightful Lisa and Matt and inaugurate our tip with a visit to their Old Town Cafe in Scappoose -- how cool is that?! We spent a wonderful couple of hours together chatting over Lisa's black bean soup and veggie quesadillas -- and it felt like we had been friends forever.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! Glad to hear it is going well and that you got to meet Lisa and visit the cafe.
I am so jealous!!! And I feel so stupid. I thought your daughter returned to Tulane!! Some day I am going to go on a "Meet my Friends I have Met via AOL" tour of the country! What a fasinating journey that would be.
Welcome to the west coast! (Albeit a tad north of me!) Am so glad you have the opportunity to visit your daughter and see our wonderful coastline. Thanks for the photos, as ever. I am making a real effort to return to blogging, so will be back!
What beautiful photos. Are there none of the two of you together? I would love to meet both you and Lisa and I'm thrilled to read that you got to spend some time together.
Gannets are enormous and sleek creamy-white seabirds, with black wingtips, yellow heads and necks, and startlingly outlined eyes. They nest on the rocky cliffs of the European and North American coasts of the North Atlantic and, once grown, spend their days sailing across the ocean. The acrobatics by which they make their living ~ steep climbs into the air and speedy plunges straight into the sea ~ are rivaled only by those of pelicans.
What better metaphor for a sweeping search of one's life choices and opportunities than a gannet extended above the waves, a regal and yet restless surveyor of the vast ocean surface? The gannet reminds us that life is an adventure in both beauty and profound unease, and that the sea itself is limitless in its textures and possibilities.

Man, am I jealous!!!! You and Lisa got to spend time together. I hope you're having a wonderful trip, but damn, I've turned green.
Ditto Cynthia. I want to meet Lisa, and black bean soup...that's one of my all time favorites! It is incredibly cool that you're getting to do this.

Glad you could make it out to beautiful Oregon while the sun was shining on the coast. And thanks for cheering Lisa up. She can use it.
