It Might Really Happen

I've been working on hotel reservations this afternoon. If anyone has any Paris favorites in the 4th-6th, let me know. We have places to stay, but I am more than willing to entertain suggestions, especially for the vicinity immediate to Notre Dame. Or we could venture forth from the Left Bank and go to Montmartre (in the 18th) if I had any idea about where to stay.

Mon mari et moi will meet in Paris; he gets to fly direct but I am going through Glasgow. We'll spend four nights there, so far at a hotel in the general neighborhood of Notre Dame; then head to Chartres for two days so that I can immerse myself in the cathedral for 24/2; then back to Paris to stay in a St. Germaine des Pres hotel we've enjoyed before. Then he'll return to les Etats-Unis while I go back to Scotland and on to Iona for a week with a group from church.

There are gannets off the coast of Scotland! Check out
these amazing photos!

It's seeming too good to be true, but it could happen. . . .

Thanks much for the link to the gannet photo! I now have a bit of a clue. Is there more to the story of why you chose this name?

Your trip sounds fantastic! One of the joys of having the entire summer off from your job.

Many years ago, when I was very young - and married - my husband & I popped across La Manche to spend the weekend in Paris - on a whim. We found one hotel we really didn't like so moved out and the following day happened upon a perfect jewel, the little Hotel Relais Christine. It's converted from a convent or monastery, and the original cloisters were still there when we stayed. It was pretty pricy back then (and in fact we literally found ourselves emptying our pockets to scrape up enough cash to pay - how embarrassing) after two nights, but ah, it was lovely. I found this website - check it out:

No idea of the cost now (looks like they may have upgraded), but at least it's a suggestion.

Love that there gannet!

Ooohlala, mon amie! The whole excursion sounds blissful. I'm looking forward to it--the travel logs anyway!! The gannet photo is indeed gorgeous and I, too, have always been curious about your various oceanic screen names. It reminded me of, I think, a Gerard M. Hopkins poem about an angel with wings bending over the world, or something along those lines. I was so taken with Chartres back in my sophomore medieval humanities class, and then in the next entry, there was one of the texts for the class (Adams).
Did dd hear GW and Bill at the Tulane graduation?

Here is where I stayed last time:

It's in Montparnasse, about a 20 minute walk to Ile de la Cite. Cheap. Very French. Nice room but small. Great breakfast.
