In the Some Nerve Department

Just picked up a voice mail reminding me of my mammogram scheduled for tomorrow.

Please try to arrive a few minutes early.

If you are late, we may have to reschedule your appointment.

Anyone wanna lay claim to EVER having waited less than half an hour past the appointed time for a medical appointment?

Only our pediatrician's office can manage this miracle. The only time I can recall waiting is the time Crash tried to help with dinner (he must have been 6 at the time), and slice open some buns. He cut his finger, nicking an artery. The pediatrician he'd seen since his birth came out, looked at it and told Crash he'd be fine -- and apologized to me for the wait, saying they had two other kids they were stitching up already, and only two doctors still in the office at 6pm!

My OB/GYN? Bring War and Peace!

In April I arrived at Gault Center in CC for my mammo, was 5 minutes early, got usual clipboard to fill out history upon arrival, was not even done with first page when I was called bac to the changing room, barely exited that when a tech took me in for films, had one retake on one side, done by five minutes after scheduled appointment time.

My parking was free because4 I hadn't been a half hour. How did this happen? Don't know, but I liked it.

Hoping GG's goes the same
R.N. on the opposite side of town from GG

The guy who did my hernia surgery in November was always within 15 minutes of the appointment. I even got there early, was called in early and was out before the time for my appt. On the other hand, my PCP almost always runs at least an hour late. She can't find a practice that allows her to schedule they way she wants to. She usually spends 40 minutes instead of the allotted 15 or 20. So, I don't complain. I don't dare go late, though because sometimes there are no shows.

I switched doctors for my GP and I never even get the magazine open before they are calling me back - same with my ortho and OB/GYN.

I used to wait forever until I switched doctors.

I hate the assumption at the doctor's office that THEIR time is more valuable than YOURS!!!

That voicemail would be enough for me to consider finding a new Dr or mammogram local....very poorly done. arrogant.

I've noticed in inverse relationship between the quality of the waiting room reading material and the length of one's wait.

If I wait longer than 5 minutes in the waiting or exam room for either my internist or another specialist whom I see once a year, it's an aberration. My ob/gyn--not so much. But I cut him a little slack because of the nature of the practice. I definitely bring a good book to my breast doctor since she is ALWAYS running at least 30 minutes late.

Those waits are frustrating, though slightly less so if it is because the doctor takes as much time with me as I need (and presumably is late because of doing the same with other patients). Those who simply schedule badly drive me nuts. I have had two doctors whose offices I called just before leaving my home or office, so see if they were running late. One would tell me the truth and I could delay my arrival by that much; the other wouldn't, and soon lost me as a client!

What bother's me about the whole medical profession is the inexplicable role reversal: the doctors and staff work for us. We are the cusotmers, they get paid for delivering to and for us, yet somehow we get treated as if we work for them.
