Starting Again

This morning I thought that maybe I would try to start to pray again.

It seems such an improbable task, one requiring such courage, to seek Presence in the vast emptiness that lies endlessly and silently before me.

What came from today's music and text
here was too raw to process here.

The wind goes round and round.

And until the day comes...we remain praying for, with, around you....(((gg)))

Your insight that it takes courage to really pray is one that will stay with me for quite a while, GG. May those moments when you feel an impulse to pray increase... {{{gg}}}

Indeed as I listened to it, I cried for you, for that wind going round and round and the streams that can never fill the sea. How sad if this was the only word we had. How hard when it feels like it is. I remain praying for you.

I was wondering how prayer was going for you and am sorry to learn not at all. I really like Dr. Kate's image of "praying for, with, and around you". I am.

Sometimes all I can do is say, God, here I am...and then give myself over...to silence....to screams....to tears....to God...and in that giving myself over I offer the only prayer I have in me.

I offered up all of yesterday's fear for you...

And also my prayers for you, in your stead, everywhere surrounding you..

Truly, we do not know how to pray as we ought. And the Spirit intercedes for us. With sighs too deep for words.

Bathing you in prayer,

I like Annie LaMott's prayer of "please" or "help" (if I remember Traveling Mercies correctly. Sometimes, all I can pray is "please". I can pray that for you and around you. alexandra

I don't have the right words to offer a pertinent prayer, but I listen to Mary Gauthier's CD "Mercy Me" when I'm emotionally numb.

She has a website at www.marygauthier.com

Sorry, the CD is called "Mercy Now." Late night blogging makes me dopey.

Lifting you up in prayer. We will pray in your stead until/if you are ready to pray again.

In my mind's eye, I see you surrounded in God's perfect light (though I'm sure it doesn't feel that way).

Good for you for not trying to "make it work". One of my friends is Quaker and her phrase is, "I'll hold you in the Light"...so that is what I am doing.

Round and round. Some of my favorite metaphors have to do with circles and slipstreams (Van Morrison in heavy rotation in my car just now). GG, I am thinking of you, and although praying with you is clearly not appropriate - I really like the expression "holding you in the light". For me it is dim right now but present, which allows me to pray. I am also sending much love to your whole family.

Just whisper His name...that will be prayer enough. He knows your heart.

This is, most likely, rude (but not meant to be). But still-- you have shared so much with people, people who have never met you, but who now "know" you much more deeply than we "know" many people we interact with every day. So, someday...could you tell us...how did he come to die?

I came to tell you that I too have been away from prayer, but hoped to go do some right now. read the recent comments and my heart sank.

no matter how long it has been, I tend to start by breathing as I say, "Here, I am."
