Goin' to Carolina...

Behind me:

Eight verbatims, four book reflections, weekly general reflections, I don't know how many overnight on-calls, an 8-10 page final evaluation in first draft form, so much suffering and death with humor and triumph blended in, so little sleep and so much tension and the inevitable tears and laugher . . . one week of CPE to go . . . screech to a halt:

We have to go to North Carolina for a three-day week-end to retrieve The Lovely Daughter from her life as a camp counselor. The waterfalls and the mountains and the trails of Pisgah Forest are calling.

We have to take my little car because The Quiet Husband's bigger one is still recovering from its encounter with a deer two weeks ago. It will be a very long drive in a very little car. But at the end will be those waterfalls and mountains and trails and, best of all, The Lovely, Lovely Daughter.

Safe travels, happy reuniting, and peaceful escapes from what has clearly been a grueling experience.

I remember the end of CPE. I took it as an extended unit, over a school year instead of the summer (small kids etc)...but nonetheless the work was the same. It is an incredible experience, one you will lean back into for a long while to come... enjoy your time away, the drive, the beauty, and your daughter.

Are you taking I40 east? If so, when you pass the 407 exit, wave really big and give a shout out to leenora as you pass by.

I know what you mean about those mountains. I live in them and they call to me everyday. Just tonight, as I sat on my front porch deep in the boonies, I longed to get out the tent...

Oh, Leenora, I wish we had time to invite ourselves over!

Unfortunately the reality of CPE is such that we will drive all day today and Monday for one brief day of respite in between.

Maybe another year?

Enjoy the brief respite - laughing about the screech to a halt.

I'm not even sure I could do that right now. I have one more paper and then I get a three week break from what has been a less emotional but similarly overwhelming summer.

Have a great trip and enjoy your time in one of your touchstone places.

It's a date Robin! Next time you are heading toward NC, you absolutley must stop at my house! Or better yet, we can meet in the mountains for a hike! I would love it!
