0-0 So Far

Just talked to my brother, whose politics differ from mine.

(I love my brother very, very much.)

Me: I've done my duty today. I've done everything within my personal power to replace Republican officeholders with Democrats.

Little Brother: And I've done mine. I've done everything I can to ensure Republican victories across the board.

Me: So we've cancelled each other out?

Little Brother: Guess so! (Pause) If Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker, I am not going to be able to stomach the news for the next several years.

Me: Oh, goodie! I'll be sure to call you to remind you to watch the news everytime she says anything reportable!

Groan from the Red part of the state; laughter from the Blue.

This sounds like a conversation embedded in purple. (Yes, I proudly and enthusiastically did my duty.)

I hate Nancy Pelosi. Nevertheless, she is head and shoulders above anything the Republicans could possibly offer us...

Cancelling each other out is a great American tradition. So was the protest vote cast in favor of Kinky Friedman for Governor of Texas by the entire QG clan. Otherwise we're really really red.

That dialogue is one of the things that makes America the country that it is. Democracy in action, each of us entitled to our own ideas and the privilege to express them.
I'm still doing the happy dance over last night's results. This morning's announcement about Rummy was the icing on the cake of a very good day.

I can't stop smiling and reading the news and smiling and watching the news and smiling and emailing the news and smiling and um, well, I guess you get the picture.
Proud to have Hillary as my Senator,
Meg

Sadly, my congressional district went Republican and we were one of the hotly contested hoping to switch districts.

I love living in NY though because it was pretty much a clean sweep from the dems other than my congressman.

I would have a similar conversation with my brother if we were still talking. He can't tolerate anybody with views different than his.

My sister and I cancel each other out, too. But in this election, every vote I cast was a winnah. Bye, Rummy. Nice mess you left us.
