Because of what I write about on my Other Blog, I sometimes get requests for information and ideas. With that in mind, does anyone reading this have any resources ~ I would think most especially books, music, videos, websites ~ for older children and teenagers grieving the sudden and violent loss of close friends?
Hi Gannet Girl,
ReplyDeletewe dealt with the unexpeted death of two young people last year, one was a 6 year old, the other an young man in his late teens who drowned.
In both cases we opened the church and provided a remembrance book and lots of coloured pens etc for anyone to write a memory.
People who came appreciated the space, and for the young mans friends the space that was provided gave them a sacntury where they were free to express their grief. I wonder if space and time is one of the best resources we can give.
The remembrance books were given as gifts to the parents, a special set of remembrances from friends.
Many of the young folk also found painting and writing poetry to be helpful, but once again the main resource was space and time.
I hope this helps in some way.
Hey, Gannet,
ReplyDeleteI remember crying until my brain leaked out my nose when I read Julie Reece Deaver's Say Goodnight, Gracie. It's worth a try.
Wolfelt & Grollman are both excellent. Here are books by each specifically for teens.
